We have to respect each talent, each passion and each artist that we have inside us and don’t let it go while we grow up. Here in pre-school at St. Peter’s we love creativity and we love art. We have been exploring language and number through various alternative ways. We try to prioritise art expression through all our subjects . In Top Infants we made cakes with plasticine and used toybox painting to help us make sense of early addition.In Kindergarten we are re-inforcing the correct letter formation with a variety of materials like paint, shavings, foam, sand, nail polish and playdough. This week we have been making our own puppets out of old t-shirts, tights and socks. Why don’t we get the best out of people? Sir Ken Robinson argues that it’s because we’ve been educated to become good workers, rather than creative thinkers. Students with restless minds and bodies — far from being cultivated for their energy and curiosity — are ignored or even stigmatized, with terrible consequences. “We are educating people out of their creativity,” Robinson says. It’s a message with huge impact. Here in St. Peter’s we strongly believe in the potential of arts, creativity and passion that can stimulate the children of the future and also the importance of taking risks because, as Mr. Robinson said: “If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you will never be original.”
