A new PYP Collaboration in Action

By Jane Hollands, School Programme consultant

What is it like? How does it work? Why are you learning about it? These are just some of the questions St. Peter’s students have been answering as part of a new collaboration that has recently started at the school.

Two teachers who have recently moved to Barcelona, Jane Hollands and Anna Bernadas, have started working with some of the schools in Barcelona that are offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Jane and Anna have spent a number of years facilitating the IB PYP programme in Switzerland, Singapore, Sudan and Denmark. This has provided them with considerable insight as to just how much it can help students to realize their learning potential. Unpacking the skills and dispositions articulated by the PYP gives learners the opportunity to develop the broad range of attributes they will need to navigate this modern world as lifelong global learners.

Over the next few months, they will be popping into classrooms, joining in with teacher’s meetings and checking in with the students about their learning. Student-centered, inquiry-based and concept-driven, the PYP works to guide learners to question, explore and wonder, whilst cultivating mindsets that allow them to become independent and perseverant problem solvers.

Please let us know if you notice more questions and curiosities being shared during your discussions at home and indeed watch for the moments when students take action to make the world a better place!

“Never doubt that a small group of people can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.”

Margaret Mead
